Abdo
Development is a District of Columbia development and construction
company that specializes in luxury residential and retail development.
The firm was incorporated in 1996 by Jim Abdo, its President and
CEO.
Abdo
Development concentrates its development in and immediately around
the urban core of Washington, DC. To date, the company has completed
over thirty development projects. Many of these developments
include distressed historic structures that require complete
restoration and conversion. Abdo also develops new buildings
that are built with the same quality and attention to detail
as its historic properties. Some of Abdo’s notable recent developments
include the development of 480 condominiums on the site of the
former Capital Children’s Museum on H Street, NE and 87 new loft
condominiums in two warehouse-inspired buildings on Clarendon
Boulevard in Arlington.
Abdo
Development has received critical acclaim from within the community
and the press for its responsible approach to development and
is considered a leader in the renewal of Washington’s historic
districts. In 2004, the company won the Mayor’s Award for Excellence
in Historic Preservation. Abdo was the recipient of the 2006
Delta Award for Most Innovative Mid-Atlantic Condominium (for
The Wooster and Mercer Lofts) and also Best Mid-Atlantic Adaptive
Reuse Condominium (for The Landmark Lofts at Senate Square).
Jim Abdo received the 2006 Bob Herrema Award for an Adaptive
Reuse project for the Bryan School Lofts. Most recently, Mr.
Abdo was honored with the 2007 CEO of the Year Award from SmartCEO
Magazine as well as the 2007 Investors in America Award from
Partners for Livable Communities. He was also named a finalist
for the 2007 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Mr.
Abdo has over twenty-five years experience in all aspects of
design/build in both commercial and residential construction.
He serves on numerous boards, including DC Preservation League,
DC Building Industry Association and Arena Stage. In 2004, Mr.
Abdo was appointed to the Washington Convention Center Authority
Board where he currently chairs the Development Committee. Additionally,
Mr. Abdo is currently serving a two-year term on Fannie Mae’s
National Housing Advisory Council.
