Special Recognitions to Be Given at 2013 Mayor’s Arts Awards

As part of the 28th annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, Mayor Vincent C. Gray and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) will present special awards to several individuals and organizations, recognizing their outstanding support to DC’s arts, entertainment, and creative industries.

Those being honored include Howard University’s Division of Fine Arts, Barbara Harman, Executive Director and Jane Harman, President of the Harman Family Foundation, and Jim Abdo, President and CEO of Abdo Development. The evening will feature performances by the Washington National Opera, Sharón Clark, and Take Dance. Mistress of Ceremonies, Helen Hayes Award-winning actress E. Faye Butler will also perform.

The Mayor’s Arts Awards are the highest honors conferred by the District of Columbia in recognition of artistic excellence and service. Finalists were chosen by the Mayor's Arts Awards Advisory Jury comprised of prominent members of the District’s arts community with expertise in dance, music, theatre, literary arts, visual arts, arts service and arts education.
